Iver's Mountain Basalt Mine

In 2008, the Mathy Company bought several hundred acres of land in Laketown township, Polk County in NW Wisconsin to develop a gravel and rock mine.

At the time, local neighbors were upset and attempted to stop the mining effort.  Laketown was not zoned and no local ordinances were in effect, so there was no government level of control.

After many years of legal wrangling, a settlement was reached with some land preserved and other to be mined.

Driving by today, I see the beginning of activity at the south edge of the mountain.
